These talented individuals — including Chelsea Clinton and Sheryl Sandberg — spare no detail when describing the ups and downs that informed their careers, so that we can learn from their successes and mistakes.

Ahead, we've collected our favorite words of wisdom from some of these inspiring professionals.

Betty Liu believes that women undervalue their worth, a tendency that has been proved by statistics, time and again. The award-winning business journalist, author, and Bloomberg TV anchor encourages all women to give themselves a lot more credit, and to ask for what they deserve when negotiating at work. 
Natalie Morales is a mother, triathlete, and NBC News anchor who got her start in the financial world. After working in banking for two years, Morales made the leap into journalism, seizing an opportunity she had long hoped for. 

Chelsea Clinton, vice chair of the Clinton Foundation and co-founder of the No Ceilings: The Full Participation Project, wants women all over the globe to have the same opportunities as men. One way in which we can decrease that gap is by asking for what we want — “You’ll never know if you don’t ask,” Clinton says. 
In order to pursue her passion for art and embark on a creative career, Sarah Lewis gave up a well-paying job in the finance industry and even a position as a museum curator. But her authenticity paid off. Today, Lewis is a successful author and assistant professor of history of art and architecture and African and African-American studies at Harvard. 

Kevin Spacey is an Academy Award-winning actor, film director, producer, and writer. As someone who has experienced incredible success over his career (including with the Netflix hit House of Cards), Spacey firmly believes in helping others reach their potential. 
Joyce Chang is a former executive editor of Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire, and has held positions at People StyleWatch and People, and The New York Times Magazine. Today, she serves as the editor-in-chief at Self magazine. It is safe to say that Chang would not be where she is today had she let any setbacks discourage her. 

From former chief of staff of the U.S. Treasury Department to VP of Global Online Sales & Operations at Google, current Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg is a force to be reckoned with. She is a boss — both literally and in the slang sense of the word — but she is not bossy. In fact, she wants us to stop using that word altogether
