All You Need to Know about Common Workplace Accidents

If you have been injured in the workplace, you may be worried about making a claim. Is it better not to rock the boat with your employer if you have any concerns regarding something that happened to you at work?

Common workplace accidents

There are many different types of accidents that can occur in the workplace. Let’s take a look at four of the most common below:

  • Construction accidents – An accident can happen in any type of workplace, yet there are certain environments that are more dangerous than others, and the construction industry is one of these. While there are stricter regulations in place when it comes to this type of working environment, unfortunately, it does not stop accidents happening altogether.
  • Repetitive strain injury – Repetitive strain injury occurs because of misuse or overuse. It can happen in many different working environments, however, it tends to be more common among those who sit at a desk working on a computer for an extended period of time. If you feel your employer is to blame, let’s say they haven’t educated you about RSI or they have refused you breaks, then you can claim.
  • Industrial hearing loss – In the case of industrial hearing loss, a lot of people find that they are claiming against an employer they worked for years and years ago because this injury takes a while to develop. If you feel your employer did not provide ample protective equipment, you could be entitled to compensation.
  • Poor health and safety – Another common type of workplace accident claim is poor health and safety claims. This is when someone suffers an injury because of poor working conditions. As mentioned in the introduction, all employers have a legal responsibility to provide a safe working place, and failure to do so can result in accidents. If you have been involved one, you should certainly make a claim.

Workplace accidents can be a bit of a grey area for a lot of people. If you have suffered an accident whilst at work you are probably thinking about the prospect of making a personal injury compensation claim. Yet, on the other hand, you may be worrying about the potential repercussions that could arise if you were to go ahead with doing so. Would you be fired? Would it destroy the relationship you have with your employer? Will it be awkward when going to work every day? Is it really worth the risk? All of these concerns come together to form one of the main reasons why so many people throughout the world do not get the compensation they would have been entitled to.

You don’t need to be worried about losing your job

Nonetheless, this is actually something you shouldn’t worry about when it comes to claiming. So long as you handle everything professionally and you go about it in the right manner, there is no reason why this should have any impact at all on your working life. It is your employer’s duty to provide a safe working environment, and if they fail to do so they are going to expect that they need to compensate the person that has suffered. They will be insured and, in most cases, you can expect a quick resolve of the issue. If they treat you differently because of what has happened, they are only going to land themselves in further hot water. If they were to go as far as to fire you, you could hire a wrongful termination attorney because you would then have grounds for unfair dismissal as well. Therefore, your employer would only be causing more damage for him or herself.

So there you have it: if you have been involved in an accident in the workplace don’t let your paranoia about losing your job stop you from getting the money you deserve.
