Careers for People Who Care

If you are someone that likes dealing with other people and taking care of their needs, you may be looking for a career in one of the many caring professions. For many years, this could be have been difficult because you needed to work full-time and could not give that up to attend college to get the required qualifications. That is a problem no longer. Most courses can now be completed online, in your own time and at your own pace. You get to do the studying when you get home from work when the children are in bed or whenever else it fits into your lifestyle.

The accreditation you receive at the end of the course is the same as if you attended a physical college or university, and then you are able to pursue the caring career of your choice. Apart from the obvious advantages of time and flexibility, online courses are generally a cheaper way of earning the qualifications you need.

Teaching

If you like working with young people and want to impart your knowledge to them then teaching could be the career for you.  You will have to be caring with their parents too as they do not always see eye-to-eye with the educational institutions.  Then there will be administrators, inspectors and the tutors and heads that are senior to you with the school, college or university.

It is a career that has many opportunities for advancement, as well as being very rewarding.

Physician

As a physician, you will have to care for the physical and mental needs of your patients. You will have to know what condition their symptoms points toward and be able to provide the correct treatment.  You will need to have a good ‘bedside manner’ and be prepared to listen carefully to what the patient is telling you. Over time, you should be able to build their trust in you and this respect makes the job even more fulfilling.

If you want to specialize in a particular area it can take many years of training, but once you are qualified you could be saving lives as well as making the lives of other patients better.

Nurse

You do not need to be so formally educated as for many other areas of the medical profession but you do need to be just as caring. You will be dealing with patients all the time and will have to have understanding and compassion. There are different areas you can specialize in such as prenatal, emergency room or as a children’s nurse. These are just three examples and whatever area you choose you will find nursing a very fulfilling career.

Certified Nursing Assistant

Certified nursing assistants are needed in a variety of settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, and private residences. You would be responsible for bathing, changing and feeding people who cannot do these things themselves. This eases the pressure on the other medical professionals and is a very well respected career.

The job needs you to have patience and be able to care for the people you are looking after with compassion, as many of them are frustrated that they need help with these matters.

Family Nurse Practitioner

An MSN FNP online program by Walsh University will expand your nursing knowledge and the relationship between nursing education, practice and research.

An FNP is an advanced practice registered nurse who works with other healthcare professionals to provide family-focused care. The qualification gives them the knowledge to be able to diagnose and treat medical conditions, but they will also work with families toward a healthier lifestyle to help prevent conditions occurring. FNP’s will also compile treatment plans and arrange for tests to be carried out if they are necessary.

You could find yourself working in the practice of a physician, in a hospital, a school or college, in a clinic or even in private homes.

Social Worker

Social workers find themselves in a huge variety of different settings, and this can change from day-to-day. You could be working with children, with the elderly or with disadvantaged people. You will have to deal with all the red tape that makes it difficult for them to get the help they are entitled to as well as providing emotional support and guidance when it is needed.

You could also have to attend court as social workers are sometimes called to give evidence, particularly in the family courts that are dealing with cases of child abuse or domestic violence.

Psychologist

Psychology is a very specialized field and is an excellent one for caring people to become qualified in. Mainly you would be dealing with patients on a one-to-one basis, but family meetings or group therapy is not unusual either.

The work involves empathizing with people from a huge range of ages, from toddlers to the elderly. The problems they have can be very varied with no two cases ever being the same. You would have to deal with all types of religions, sexual orientations, and cultures in a way that helps the patient without being judgmental.

Childcare

If you love working with children but would rather not be a teacher you could look at providing childcare. This could be as a nanny in a private home; you could provide a babysitting service, be a daycare operator in your own home, or work in one of the daycare centers with premises that are designed for the purpose.

The care you would be expected to provide includes meals, snacks, drinks, and entertainment. Generally, you would be dealing with younger children who may need some emotional support as well. Young children can bring a lot of joy to a job and this contributes to childcare being a great career to work in.

Group Home Worker

The job of group home workers and managers is to assist people with developmental problems to live more independent lives. This involves a great deal of caring or them and helping them to reach their full potential within the home, as well as helping them to cope with the outside world.

These are just a few suggestions of jobs for caring people and there are online courses available for you to start in any of them.
